Events this week...

Another eventful trip to Detroit rock city...

School visits sure are neat to see the students in class and working so hard! Now the challenge is to get the teachers to work hard on what we are training them on.

Beyond our school visits we got to explore more of the city and new dining experiences.

We dined at Hard Rock Cafe. I had the legendary burger...and got to see many artist's guitars, clothes and to listen to a varity of tunes while dining. Of course, I hit up the gift shop!

We also took a tour of Motown Records. The history alone is simply amazing of how these stars came to be-back in their time and how the legend of their songs live on today.

Then we did a little shopping..which is always fun.
Pictures to come of my travels soon. Enjoy the weekend.

Day Trip: Windsor, Ontario

An day trip to Windsor, Ontario, Canada was a splendid adventure!

We crossed the border going through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.
It is a partially submerged highway tunnel connecting the USA to Canada.

As we crossed the border and were welcomed to the city, we started to experience the delights of Spring with feelings of the cities French heritage and spring blooms around.

Approaching a city park along the waters-the skyline of the USA was in front of us. Very cool.

Hi! I am in Canada-its my first trip!

Tulips all around...

After we enjoyed the city park, we detoured through the country side, which led us to a quaint area of farm fields, greenhouses and marinas all around. We were on our way to an Outlet Mall, however the GPS wasn't working in our favor for exact directions, but we did get to see more of the area this way.

We did make it to our destination, shopped for a few hours, then headed back downtown for souvenirs and dinner.
I was on a hunt for some good Canadian Whiskey for the handyman but struck out..instead he got maple taffy.

Next we ate at Maazar...a Lebanese restaurant.
We took the recommendations from our waiter and experienced the wonderful Greek food he brought to us.
First were Stuffed Grape Leaves, they look interesting...

..but were a little bitter for me.

Next up was Humus..at first I only saw the beans at the bottom in the oil, but the humus is the entire bowl and oh was it delicious with fresh pita bread.
(notice how the spoon sinks into the side of the bowl.)

Heading back to the states, we had to see the view at night from the park.
Love the twinkle of the lights in the night sky.
We kept watching an elevator in one of the buildings go up and down.
Man, that vator was quick...as we only could see the light in it going up and down.
Truly entertaining.

Crossing the border back was a little tricky. Here I am from Wisconsin, traveling with a lady from Florida and another gal from Alabama..and why are we staying in Detroit?
We did get asked many questions by the border patrol, however our vehicle was one that didn't get searched.

I was thankful of that, as Ms. Florida had us each bring back 2 bottles of 200 pills each of Tylenol with codeine..I happen to have kept a bottle for myself though.

So an evening of city skylines, souvenirs, dinner, drugs and peer enjoyment of seeing new things in this world.
Hope you get out and adventure the outdoors.

Travels

What an exciting week of "business." Well let's just say its a business trip this round with a lot more fun had. The adventure began as we took the advice from a travel magazine and their recommendations to try some of Detroit's finest restaurants. We at at Slow's BBQ!

I was open to trying new things-hey, it makes the experience..take a look at what I ate...

Now my partner in crime this week hales from Florida, so I learned southern women sure know what they like and how to get you to try it. Although not as common around central Wisconsin, I did enjoy the taste of the south with these Okra and black-eyed Pea Fritters.
Although my favorite became the combinations of the flavors of the BBQ sauce.
Apple BBQ hit the top of the list!

Pam and I happy after our yummy BBQ taste test lunch!

More of our fun business trip to come...

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

Detroit sure does have the stigma of being a BAD city (and if you watch their local news, you won't go out at night)...but there definitely are some good things to explore as well. The bad of what we did see was low performing, run down schools and neighbor hoods, but the city itself is full of history and a lot of interesting things. Here some pictures to capture the good and bad of the city from my adventures last week.

THE GOOD...
DT Detroit...downtown (people mover track on left side)

Fox Theater

Motown Museum

THE BAD...
Run down neighorhood

A burnt down house-right across from a elementary school

and THE UGLY... Ghetto Cruzer..nice rims!

Back in D-town

Back in Detroit.
(Had a wonderful weekend visit home as the sun was out and my hubby missed me too!)

Well last week was a looooong week of working school to school and trying to meet and train the teachers on our reading products. The week was very interesting of all the places and people we got to see. I'll have more to post on that later..but pictured here is the hightlight of my drive each day. The BIG TIRE!

Now this week, back again (but just a few days) but I get the luxury of driving in a new Ford Flex! Its a toaster box but with bells and whistles...

So on my cruise tomorrow to a few schools I'll look out for the big tire and know I am close to the hotel. So I checked out the BIG TIRE..pretty interesting thing. It used to be an amusement ride or ferris wheel in the 1964 and 1965 Worlds Fair in New York.
Now it landed in Detroit Near the sales office for Uniroyal tires...its big stuff.

Also. did you know there are 53 things to do in D-town..well I am still discovering some of those things..but I did get past Motown Records and some other historical sites. Hoping my travels will be good and full of learning stuff and stories.

See you all soon! Lovin' Spring-Outdoor Embellishes
